Dance@Night 2013 is a window into the work of senior students in the Choreography and Performance concentration of the BA Dance degree. 

The University of Calgary’s Faculty of Dance proudly presents a showcase of movement and artistic expression with Mainstage Dance 2013. Considered one of the most anticipated events in the academic calendar, this annual performance enables BA Dance students to showoff their talent and work with some of Canada’s premier professional choreographers, among them such Faculty talents as Michèle Moss, Wojciech Mochniej, Melissa Monteros as well as guest choreographer Tania Alvarado.

Peggy Baker is acclaimed as one of the most exceptional modern dancers of her generation and is the recipient of numerous awards including a Governor General’s Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts, the Order of Canada, the Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Arts and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Calgary in 1998. Baker is once again returning to her home province of Alberta to grace the University Theatre with her composure, charisma and outstanding technique.

The extremely popular Dance Montage returns for its 43rd year, featuring 109 dancers in a collection of 10 performances. Not only is it impressive that 109 dancers will squeeze into 5 backstage dressing rooms, but the range of dance styles is exhilarating. This year’s show will once again excite audiences with everything from funk, pointe ballet, contemporary, jazz and Montage’s first ever Dancehall fusion piece.

Dance students and professional choreographers work together on annual production

The extremely popular annual production of Dance Montage returns with new work from both experienced and beginner University of Calgary choreographers and dancers. A collection of 10 performances in one nightly show, this years’ dancers will wow audiences with everything from Caribbean dance to ballroom to contemporary. There is even a piece including stilts.

The new Department of Dance hosts Dance @ Night April 8 & 9 at the University Theatre.

The Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Calgary is pleased to announce that Vicki Adams Willis (BFA 72) was awarded the Calgaryculture.com award for ESTABLISHED ARTIST Monday, September 21 at the 2009 Mayor's Evening for business and the Arts.

One of the earliest productions of the University of Calgary’s Dance Montage included a young dancer named Sharin Adams, BPE’69. Her experience, truly a first-time public performance, didn’t go quite as she planned.

Mainstage Dance is an annual production by the University of Calgary’s Department of Dance that brings dance students, professors, and professional choreographers together.
